Tata Electronics Private Limited’s ambitious proposal to build a ₹27,000 crore semiconductor facility in Jagiroad, Morigaon, is preparing Assam for a significant leap into the future. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed her sincere gratitude for this remarkable development, which has been supported by business magnate Ratan Tata and Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran. Sarma conveyed sincere appreciation for their faith in Assam’s ability to execute this game-changing investment, which is expected to elevate Assam’s profile in the international semiconductor industry.
At a meeting with the Tata leadership, the semiconductor facility’s plans to house a Skill Development Centre were revealed. With the help of specialised courses in artificial intelligence, electronics, and semiconductors, this programme seeks to empower the young of Northeast India and provide new career and leadership prospects in the field. Sarma emphasised the value of such programmes in giving young people a platform and mentioned the 1,500 people—mostly women—who have already benefited from continuing training programmes at Tata facilities in Bangalore.
With its 48 million chip production capability per day, the semiconductor factory is a major technological advancement for Assam. The recent “Semiconductor Assembly & Test Facility” foundation-laying ceremony by Prime Minister Narendra Modi serves as another evidence of the initiative’s enormous potential influence on Assam. Ratan Tata highlighted this project’s revolutionary potential and envisioned Assam becoming a major participant in the production of advanced semiconductors. With plans underway for India’s first semiconductor fabrication facility, Assam stands on the cusp of unprecedented growth and development in the technology sector. This collaborative effort between the Tata Group and the Assam government holds the promise of prosperity and job creation, ushering in a new era of technological innovation and economic progress for the state.
