An avalanche struck the Hung area of Sonamarg in Ganderbal district, Jammu and Kashmir, causing temporary blockage on the Srinagar-Leh highway. The incident occurred on Friday, with several vehicles buried under the snow. Fortunately, prompt response from authorities, including the Police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local residents, ensured the successful rescue of all passengers. Two vehicles primarily occupied by tourists were directly impacted, but no casualties were reported. A police team, dispatched under the direction of SSP Ganderbal Sandeep Gupta, swiftly rescued the trapped vehicles. The incident follows recent avalanches in the region, including the temporary blockage of the Bandipora-Gurez road, and the safe rescue of stranded trekkers in Poonch district. Efforts are ongoing to clear the snow and ensure the safety of travelers in the affected areas.
