Peruvian President Dina Boluarte‘s Residence Raided in Search for Undeclared Rolex Watches
In a dramatic turn of events, Peruvian President Dina Boluarte’s residence in the Lima district of Surquillo was raided by police late on Friday, followed by a subsequent raid on the government palace on Saturday morning. The raids were part of an investigation into allegations of illicit enrichment and failure to declare ownership of luxury watches, particularly Rolex timepieces.
The investigation, dubbed “Rolexgate,” was initiated after a media report highlighted President Boluarte’s conspicuous display of Rolex watches at public events, raising questions about their origin and whether they had been properly declared. Authorities were searching for more than a dozen Rolex watches allegedly owned by President Boluarte but not disclosed in her asset declarations.
President Boluarte, who assumed office in December 2022, has acknowledged owning Rolex watches, claiming to have purchased them with her earnings since she was young. She has adamantly maintained her innocence, asserting that she entered government with clean hands and would leave office with the same integrity.
The raids, conducted by approximately 20 officials from the public prosecutor’s office and 20 police officers, were met with criticism from the Peruvian government. Prime Minister Gustavo Adrianzen denounced the raids as disproportionate and unconstitutional, emphasizing their adverse impact on the country’s stability and investment climate.
Despite the mounting pressure and scrutiny, President Boluarte has reiterated her commitment to remain in office until the end of her term in 2026. She condemned the raids as abusive and defended her administration’s transparency and compliance with legal procedures.
This latest incident adds to a series of investigations into Peruvian presidents and senior officials, underscoring the ongoing challenges of corruption and accountability in the country’s political landscape. As the inquiry unfolds, the public awaits further developments and the resolution of these allegations against President Boluarte.
